Description

Mystery Maker 'Mystery Maker' (tom mcguinness & jim crampsey) CAVES records Ultra RARE PRIVATE PRESS 70's U.K Psych / folk masterpiece

ok, details - the cover is a STRONG VG+, couple of tiny creases on the left hand side near the bottom (see the upside down photo of actual item) no seam splits, no tears, nothing else to note, its a very strong VG+, still shiney, has no sticker residue or anything (from looking on popsike this has gotta be one of the strongest copies out there!)
The vinyl - its PERFECT. there are a couple of light spindle marks that you can see under very bright light but its a black matt paper label so thats to be expected.
THE VINYL ITSELF could be graded MINT, it hasnt got a mark on it, no scuffs, no hairlines, nothing. Its a beautiful copy, THE ALBUM IS GENTLE IN PLACES SO YOU NEED THIS KIND OF PERFECT, UNBLEMISHED PRESSING.  Id go as far as to say its THE MOST beautiful copy around (cause there were probably 100 of these pressed back in the day). Its a COLLECTORS ARCHIVE COPY if ever ive seen one - and ive seen this once. To let you know, it came from a local record shop, was in a box of pristine religious albums that had been donated by a choir master (so it wasnt owned by some stoned hippie who skinned up j's on it back then while nodding out to thye dreamy transcendental psych folk grooves, it was kept in a perfect, clean environment and was, if you believe, actually watched over by God - hence the condition haha). Im not saying how much I paid back then but its the only copy ive seen in 17 years collecting so know this is the real deal, a MAJOR RARITY. Sadly no booklet but the record is so good...
The last copy sold went for £173 and in the write up it mentions clicks and slight hairlines. Well, ***NOT ONE FAULT WITH THIS COPY. NO CLICKS, NO LINES, NOTHING.*** has become very sought after and its rarity is now well established. Will another copy come round for sale? Maybe, in time, it will. Can you take that risk though?
here is a review (taken off the net) to let you know whats going on here for all this crazy HYPE...
"Superior moody prog-laced British folk outfit often similar to the dreamy ballad style of groups like 11:59 and Cloud. Very peaceful, hushed, somewhat melancholy tone, surreal and motionless at times. Some achingly beautiful melodies aglow with fragile atmospheric male/female harmonies. Plenty of electric guitar with some excellent soloing, even some fuzz on the title track and ‘The Road To Emmaus’ where it crescendos to one of the albums heavier moments. I especially liked the Jerry Garcia-ish lead guitar on the magical ‘Giver Of Life’. Being a private press from England it understandably goes for some fairly big bucks. (Review taken from Internet)
Started life as Anawim, contributing several tracks to the 1975 Charisma label compilation Beyond An Empty Dream. Two years later they issued this extremely rare private pressing as Mystery Maker. The disc is sometimes compared to Ithaca in dealer lists, ..consisting mainly of haunting and rather eerie electric folk music. The rock elements are more prominent on side two, particularly on the title track, with its heavy electric guitar chords, and on the closer ‘The Road To Emmaus’, which climaxes with a stunning solo. (Review taken from Internet)
Recording/production quality is very high with a definite Moody Blues feel, not too far away from the Ithaca - Game for all Who Know LP, well pressed and professional `Robert Stace` laminated sleeve, Top Drawer fro a private pressing, No booklet"
