MULATU ASTATKE - ASIYO BELLEMA / NEFSH NESH - ON AMHA RECORDS, ETHIOPIA AE120
.Exteremely rare original Ethiopian 45 by Mulatu Astatke (Mulatu of Ethiopia). Only the 12th single to be released on the legendary Amha Record label from Addis Ababa that due to the lack of a record-plant in Ethiopia pressed it's records in India, Lebanon and Greece. This was recorded in London in the late Sixties with Calypso Musician Frank Holder and a bunch of others - Asiyo Bellema is a traditional Ethiopian folk song that's been re-arranged and made into a tough Ethio-Latin-Funk tune, with rough percussion and even some steel drums. The condition looks rough (it's got a lot of small marks all over it, but it manages to play through it all without any major detioration in the sound as it's pressed nice and loud- some light crackle - check the sound file). There's no bad pops or clicks or jumps. The B-side is a Calypso track sung in English that talks about Addis Ababa. You can listen to it on the soundclip below if you need to hear what it sounds like. There's some writing on the label - that can been seen in the scan. Any questions please ask....
