MUDDY WATERS The Chess Box (P-Vine Special PLP 6040-6050) RARE Japan 1985 11xLP Box Set EX++

RARE original Japanese box set of Muddy Waters` complete Chess recordings, "The Chess Box", released on P-Vine/Chess Records (1985). 

"P-Vine Special, the exemplary Japanese specialist reissue label, set the standard in blues box sets during the LP era with the Muddy Waters compilation The Chess Box, issued as an eleven-LP set, with a bonus disc added to a special edition release. This box covers all the ‘singles’ sessions–honing in on what the compilers regarded as the meat of Muddy’s work, aimed for commercial release to the black audience–from his first Aristocrat sides, Gypsy Woman and Little Anna Mae, of 1947 to the June 1967 session that produced one of his final Chess 45s, Birdnest on the Ground and When the Eagle Flies, along with a number of unissued tracks and some takes that are alternates to the original Chess issues. More unissued and alternate takes have surfaced since this box was compiled in 1985, but otherwise, the only 1947-67 Chess/Aristocrat sides missing from the box are live recordings (including Newport 1960), the Muddy Waters: Folk Singer tracks from 1963, and the 1966 Brass and the Blues session."  - Jim O`Neal for The Blues Foundation, November 2016.

EX++ to MINT(-) COVERS in carefully handled, near-perfect condition.

- The first cover (PLP 6040) has a tiny stain, as well as a small tear to the top edge. 

- Six of eleven record covers have a small seam split to the top edge, varying from 1 to 2 inches in length. These are graded EX+.

- Five of the record covers are in perfect MINT(-) condition.

- All records come in original MINT(-) condition polylined inner sleeves.

EX+ BOOKLET with minor handling wear.

- The twenty-page booklet has a few light handling creases and corner wear.

- Also includes the original obi in VG+ condition, with creasing and a tear (at bottom).

MINT(-) RECORDS in absolutely as-new condition.

- All twenty record sides were played exactly once when copying to hard-disc.
