This is an auction for a ultra rare Box Set, Mozart, Figaro, Danco, Siepi, Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Kleiber.

This was released by Decca Records in 1959 and has catalogue number SXL 2087-90. This is the very sought after 1st pressing with a black label and silver lettering. A deep circular groove runs around the label. The words 'Original Recording By The Decca Co Ltd London' are printed around the top half of the label. The Decca logo, also in silver, is printed in large letters, with the FFSS circular logo printed above the words 'Full Frequency Stereophonic Sound' which runs across a 1cm silver band that runs the width of the label. This label is sometimes referred to as 'EDI' (English Decca 1st Label) or can be referred to as 'WBg' (Wide Band grooved). This is of course Stereophonic.

Condition: The box comes in fine condition with light buffing to the very corners and a few places along the edges. The bottom right corner of the lid has a discreet tape mark around that edge corner, probably placed there as this corner has a tiny split. Other than that this appears to be fine, Spine Ex, Hinge Ex, Textured box Ex, Pasted on picture cover Ex, No discolouring, Rear of box Ex. The centre is superb with nice white insides and is immaculate. Fine 50 year old box, probably as good as you can find it.

This comes with its original four 'FFSS' inner sleeves.

This also comes with its original booklet which other than a couple of discreet pen marks to the inside pages is mint. No discolouring, no tears, fine pages.

Labels: All labels are pictured below on supersize. As you will see these are in superb condition with many having one or two tiny spider spindle trails only. None of the labels have scuffs, pen marks, finger marks, stains or show signs of being handled or being played more than a few times at most. The centre hole's are also fantastic showing little to no signs of wear, again please check the pictures for clarification.

Vinyl: Appearance - All sides look brand new and maintain that new rainbow shine. When tilted under a very strong light one or two tiny feather scratches and the odd tiny mark can be seen. Side 7 is the only side with a visible scratch, this is a long scratch that runs right across the record. Now for the really good news all of the above marks and scratches are completely non-audible. please read below for further details.

I have spent an interesting afternoon playing through these 4 records and have been simply blown away by the sound quality. I had a pen and paper at hand to take notes on each side as I played it. As it turned out this was some what of a waste of time as they all play and grade at the same. Other than a few very quiet crackles heard in places they played superbly well. With only one audible loud pop heard on side 8 and a few very quiet feckles heard mostly at the very beginning of a few sides, this may well be dust as the vinyl shows no signs of wear. The music itself plays faultlessly with no distortion, fading or dragging heard whatsoever. Lovely clean breaks and entries, the vocals are amazing and clean, the orchestra can be heard with full clarity. These records play with very little lessening in some places to no lessening in sound quality. 

These records are graded at Near Mint with possibly side 7 being dropped to VG+ for the one visible non-audible scratch.

How rare is this item? This is the first one of these I have seen in 7 years of trading records, I have never seen one on Ebay or anywhere else. To find one in this condition speaks for itself, probably the UKs rarest classical box set in collectors condition, complete down to the inners. Sometimes on Ebay people state that you may never get another chance to own one of these, well in this case, in this condition it's probably true. A must for the serious collector of the SXL series.

A fantastic collectable and one I strongly recommend.
