Record

The record has a beautiful glossy appearance, lays 100% flat on the turntable and has no warping. Viewing under bright light there are just a few light thin hair-lines and one or two superficial light marks present. There are no stylus scratches, scuffs or other marks visible. The record is graded Excellent/Excellent Plus

 
Labels

The famous pink Island labels are in lovely condition. The spindle hole shows no wear and extremely light evidence of play from the spindle lines present. There is less than five spindle lines visible on side one, and around seven/eight on side two. The labels are graded Excellent Plus

Cover

The original non-laminated gatefold cover is in strong condition and I`m happy to grade it Excellent. The front and gatefold inner is blemish free with no ring-wear, creases or any other marks. The rear sleeve has a tiny white mark near the top right and a very mild record impression shape. The spine is straight with no wear. The top and bottom edges are straight and have no wear apart from the front bottom edge which has very light brushing through storage when viewed head on.  The record entry edge is straight with no wear or feathering. The corners are fine with just very minor tip rubs to the two spine corners and the record entry edge rear sleeve corners. Overall a very strong cover displaying great artwork which is completely free from creases or unwanted marking.

Inner Sleeve

The inner is a plain white company sleeve and is in excellent condition with no seam splits or tears.

Sound Quality

As with every record I sell I have play graded the whole of this Mott the Hoople debut album. The audio quality is excellent throughout with no distortion on the quiet passages or the heavier tracks. I did hear some random low level crackle on the quieter tracks and on the introductory and between track grooves. Although audible, this is low level (i.e not moderate or high) to explain it in more detail. I would be the first to reject a record on audio grounds, and I would not list a record even as rare as this one if the sound quality was not acceptable. Those of you familiar with early Island pressings such as King Crimson and Nick Drake will know how difficult it is to find these without pressing problems! With this in mind I`m more than happy to offer and recommend this rarity.

All of my listed records are carefully visually inspected under bright light and play graded before auction to avoid any disappointment to buyers, so bid with confidence.

The grading system I use is from Record Collector: - Mint, Excellent, Very Good with +/- to distinguish borderline grades (see below)

Mint. This is in brand new un-played condition.
Excellent. Some signs of being played, but very little lessening of sound quality. There can be minor cover wear and/or creasing.
Very Good. The record has visual evidence of many plays including noticeable surface marks and light scratches. There should be no major deterioration of sound quality however. The cover can have light/moderate wear but no major defects.

A full no quibble refund for the cost of the record will be offered if you are not satisfied for ANY reason.

I treat all vinyl with the greatest respect whether £5 or £50, so all records are sent out with plastic covers in professional mailers and two protective cardboard stiffeners. I always separate records from their covers and original inner sleeves for posting to prevent seam splits occurring during shipping.

It is the buyer’s responsibility to take out any insurance cover required. I would advise insurance to be taken out on any item sale greater than £30.00 as protection against loss or damage during shipping. Without this additional insurance the full value of items above £30.00 that are lost or damaged will NOT be able to be recovered.

Following the close of the auction I will send an invoice within twenty four hours. All winning bidders must make contact within three days of the end of the auction or I reserve the right to withdraw the item or select the second chance option and offer the item to another bidder.
