EXTREMELY RARE MOTOWN
THE SPINNERS (later THE DETROIT SPINNERS in the U.K.)
SWEET THING/HOW CAN I
TAMLA MOTOWN TMG514
RELEASED 1965
** EXTREMELY RARE **
MAYBE THE HOLY GRAIL OF THE TAMLA MOTOWN 500 SERIES
When on the TriPhi label in the US, The Spinners had a previous release in the U.K. on Columbia in 1961. ‘Sweet Thing’ was The Spinners first record for Motown and it was released here in 1965.
Because there was already an established group in the U.K. called The Spinners they were obliged to change their name over here to The Detroit Spinners.
However, this record was released here as The Spinners and is very, very much sought after - and expensive! (On 17/8/21 one copy sold on eBay for £775.)
I bought this brand new when it was released here in 1965 and it has been part of my vast collection of Soul, R&B and Blues records since.
Both sides of the record play absolutely perfectly. Visibly, the record looks to be unmarked. Over 56 years it has been played and handled a few times but, as I have said, plays perfectly. I can hear no extraneous surface noise. There is no handwriting on the record and I have graded it as Excellent (Ex). [Any reflections in the photos are caused by the surroundings and are not on the vinyl.]
The record is in it’s original sleeve, which has no tears. Over 56 years the sleeve has been handled quite a bit but is in remarkably good condition. The only very small bit of handwriting on the sleeve is it’s catalogue number (514) written by me in the top right-hand corner on the front. I have graded the sleeve as Very Good+.
The well packaged record will be despatched by Royal Mail Special Delivery, fully insured, at a subsidised cost of £5.
I always endeavour to combine postage where possible.
U.K. delivery only.
