Motörhead are a British heavy metal band formed in 1975 by bassist, singer and songwriter Lemmy Kilmister, who has remained the sole constant member. Usually a power trio, Motörhead had particular success in the early 1980s with several successful singles in the UK Top 40 chart. The albums Overkill, Bomber, Ace of Spades, and particularly No Sleep 'til Hammersmith, cemented Motörhead's reputation as one of Britain's foremost rock bands.

While Motörhead are typically classified as heavy metal, speed metal or thrash metal (and often regarded as a foundational influence on the later two styles), Lemmy dislikes such labels, preferring to describe the band's music simply as "rock n' roll". Motörhead's approach has remained the same over the band's career, preferring to play what they enjoy and do best; their appreciation of early rock and roll is reflected in some of their occasional cover songs. Motörhead's lyrics typically cover such topics as war, good versus evil, abuse of power, promiscuous sex, substance abuse, and "life on the road." The band's distinctive fanged-face logo, Snaggletooth, with its oversized boars' horns, chains, and spikes, was created by artist Joe Petagno in 1977 for the cover of the Motörhead album and has appeared in many variations on covers of ensuing albums.

Snake Bite Love is the fourteenth album by the British band Motörhead. It was released on March 10, 1998 and was distributed by BMG. This album features the three piece line up of Lemmy, Mikkey Dee and Phil Campbell.

Lemmy recalls that the making of Snake Bite Love was quite normal for the band:

Six weeks before we recorded it, we didn't even even have one song. But when it came time, we put it together very quickly. Unfortunately, I was sick for some of the rehearsals, and when you leave two guys together who aren't singers, you end up with some weird arrangements.

He points particularly to "Desperate for You" and "Night Side" in this respect and explains how the title track started as a completely different song — Dee recorded the drums tracks against a totally different set of chords, then it went back to Sweden where Campbell stated he was sick of the song and didn't like it, Lemmy agreed and Campbell came up with a new riff and changed the whole thing. Lemmy admits that the album is a prime example of him writing the words at the last minute, and adds "you know, lazy son of a bitch one more time, right?".

Campbell is jokingly credited in the album's liner notes as an unpronouncable glyph ("The Artist Frequently Seen at the Liquor Store"), mocking Prince.

So, you don't own Snake Bite Love then? Shame on you! This is Motorhead at their very best, with something for everyone. If you like slowish, grinding tracks in the vein of Stay Clean or Metropolis then Dogs of War and Joy of Labour really hit the spot with Phil Campbell crunching away on his guitar...if you prefer good old fashioned rock 'n' roll the Motorhead way then Don't lie to me and Desperate for you will leave you grinning from ear to ear ...for those who need something a bit more high octane there's Snake Bite Love (very subtle..not!) and Take the Blame which see the boys in manic overdrive... and then there's Night Side and Assassin, which give us an insight into the darker corners of Lemmy's mind...but I've saved the best 'til last. As soon as the opening track, Love for Sale, kicks in you just know this album is gonna be a work of art, guaranteed you will be singing the words before the 4 odd minutes are up and just waiting eagerly for the next track to begin ....and the crowning glory must be the huge, monster Motorballad Dead and Gone, simple guitars and Lemmy lamenting before the chorus rears up at you in true Motorhead style and assaults the senses. Lyrically, Lemmy is at his very best and musically this is the Motorhead we have come to know and love so go buy it, play it very loud and annoy your neighbours...you know you want to!
