MOTHER MAYBELLE CARTER was born in Scott County, Virginia. She started recording with the famous original Carter Family in 1927. This group has become legendary in the folk music field and their songs and melodies have been enjoyed by millions. Mother Maybelle continued with this group until it broke up in 1943. At that time she began performing and recording with her three daughters.
Maybelle Carter has created an original style of playing the AUTOHARP known as the "Carter Style."
