Steel drum funk can easily become a bit corny, but not in this case!! Steel Funk & Brass is among the few most sought after steel funk albums and for a reason. The band is accompanied by a tight funk drummer and some of the songs have a vocalist. They venture into covers of the era's big funk and soul tunes like Cymande's 'The message' and Bill Withers' 'Ain't no sunshine'. 
The highlight on the album may be a cover of an afrobeat song! Originally performed by Fela Kuti, this version of 'A black man's cry' was recently compiled on 'Black Man's Cry: The Inspiration of Fela Kuti' (Stones Throw). The other best track is 'Caterpillar', a cover of the Lou Donaldson song.
Grab this super rare original while you can... it doesn't show up a lot, especially in such nice condition.
