Originally released in 1997 as the follow up to their House By The Cemetery EP, the debut full-length from Yonkers, New York gorecore outfit Mortician careened into the scene like a slasher killer wielding a rusted instrument of destruction, ready to dismember peers and ears alike with its brutal form of claustrophobic deathgrind intensity. Relying on an abundance of horror film samples, as well as taking topical influence from grim news stories to detail blood-soaked narratives of depraved viscera-spewing carnage, Hacked Up For Barbecue offered a dismal near-hour of technical, brutal mayhem that not only set the standard for themselves going forward, but for the realms of overtly confrontational death metal as an entity.
