MORRISSEY - BEETHOVEN WAS DEAF

A truly outstanding copy of this increasingly rare and sought after 1993 UK 1st press Morrissey gem, on the HMV record label, STEREO, CSD 3791, featuring sixteen Smiths classics recorded live on 22nd December, 1992 at The Zenith in Paris

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1  CSD 3791 A - 01 - 01 - 1 with stamper "D" at 10 o'clock, and "WOULD YOU RISK IT FOR A BISCUIT?" etched into the dead wax area

Side 2  CSD 3791 B - 01 - 01 - 1 with stamper "D" at 1 o'clock

The appearance of the flat, thick vinyl is MINT. Jet black gleaming vinyl with a gorgeous "as new" sheen which in normal daylight is impossible to fault. Even with close scrutiny and under a bright light I cannot detect even the usual one or two wispy hairlines or light paper scuff marks...clearly, this vinyl has been played only a few times but because it has been played and I would only grade unplayed/sealed vinyl as "mint", I grade the condition of this vinyl as NEAR MINT. Gorgeous!

The labels are near mint. Beautiful, original black textured labels with no unwanted writing or marks, and the iconic HMV logos, on both the side 1 and side 2 labels, perfectly intact, as is all of the white and red text. No marks at all, not even the usual one or two faint spindle trails. Beautiful!

The non-laminated "Whores In Retirement" outer gatefold sleeve is excellent plus (EX+). Such an iconic sleeve, and this one has just a few minor blemishes only...each edge remains firm with just a few light "nicks" and 2cm of light scuffing on the bottom rear edge adjacent to that corner; each corner remains a perfectly defined right angle with just a little scuffing/rubbing on each; the spine is similarly rigid with all text perfectly intact and totally legible - there is just a 7mm light scuff about half way up the spine with a 1cm very light surface crease emanating from the middle of that scuff and perpendicular to the spine; there is some very light and intermittent scuffing on the top rear edge...very minor; there are two very light and small residue (where perhaps a shop sticker was once?) marks on the rear side close to the top edge, but these are only noticeable when the sleeve is tilted at the right angle in a bright light. Apart from these very minor blemishes the sleeve is perfect, with all colouring and art work remaining crisp, clear and vibrant, and photos in similarly great shape, and remaining utterly impressive despite this LP now being 26 years of age (hard to believe).

Finally, the quality of the audio is truly outstanding, near mint . No clicks, no background interference or crackle, and simply great stereo sound quality with fabulous tone and clarity even on the higher notes and at higher volume. Each and every track on this wonderful LP makes for a great listen. Enjoy!

Comes with original poly-lined black inner sleeve which remains in excellent plus condition, with no tears or splits or creasing and remaining 100%fully functional. Note that I always post the record in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.

In summary a very nice, highly presentable copy of this increasingly rare and sought after 1993 UK original pressing rock/indie classic - a "must" for any serious indie/Smiths/Morrissey vinyl collection and only continuing to gain in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard "crucifix" style mailer along with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
