Van Morrison found his footing with Moondance, the 1970 album which followed the commercial shrug that met Astral Weeks two years earlier. Written after Morrison advised to upstate New York, and recorded with a tight studio band at A&R Studios in Manhattan, we hear this favourite Northern Irish spirit guide trade the drifting folk-jazz of its predecessor for sharper, song-led arrangements rooted in rhythm & blues, jazz and soul, from 'And It Stoned Me' and 'Crazy Love' to 'Into The Mystic' and the title track. Whence Morrison would become a sure staple of early-70s AOR LP-scapel; this Analogue Productions edition revisits Moondance as a 45 RPM double LP, from a 24/192 transfer of the original master.
