Description
You are bidding on an original 11 track import pressing of a Morbid Angel “Abominations of Desolation” LP on the Satanic Records label from 1991. Printed in Japan. The condition of this item is as follows. The vinyl is clean overall on both sides by visual inspection under incandescent light sources, but both sides do have a few very light hairline marks. This is especially true on side B. The second side also has two noticeable scratches running through the first two songs, which are “The Gate/Lord of All Fevers and Plague” and “Hellspawn”. Although they appear pronounced, I can’t feel them when lightly running my index finger over the surface. Although they look bad, neither of them seriously affects playback or the overall soundstage. I can only hear one quick pop during “LOAFAP” and three quick pops at the very beginning of “Hellspawn”. Other than that, this LP performs and sounds great overall. The vinyl format truly heightens the listening experience of this early Morbid Angel masterpiece.
The outer printed cardboard sleeve has an approximately four inch seam split in the head (top) of the cover. The spine and bottom are fine. It also has a slight bend in the upper right hand corner that extends inward from that corner about 2 ½ to 3 inches. It is not very noticeable and doesn’t detract from the album cover art, which completely shocked me the first time I saw it back in 1988.
I’ve play tested this copy twice on a Revolver turntable with a Sumiko Blue Point Special cartridge to ensure accuracy in this listing. The areas in question repeat the same anomaly during subsequent spins on my equipment. A Sumiko BPS cartridge runs about $350.00 to give you a comparison point with your equipment’s playback capability before bidding on this item.
This album features Mike Browning (drums/vocals, who later formed Nocturnus), Trey Azagthoth (guitars/demonic string evocations), Richard Brunelle (guitars), and Sterling Von Scarborough (bass). Produced by David Vincent. Engineered by Bill Metoyer of Metal Blade Records. Dedicated to the memory of Aleister Crowley.
This will make a good starter copy of this record for the emerging death metal vinyl collector. This record will delight a true underground fan of Morbid Angel and early death metal in general.
