MOONDOG

"Moondog"

CBS Records 63906

RARE ORIGINAL 1969 UK 1st PRESSING (A1/B1 Matrix) STEREO LP

LP Description:

MOONDOG - "Moondog" - Rare original 1969 UK CBS first pressing (A1/B1 matrix) 8-track stereo LP on the first pressing dark orange CBS record label. The LP comes housed in it's superb original first pressing E.J.Day gatefold sleeve.

You are bidding on a rare original first vinyl pressing of the MOONDOG self-titled LP released in 1969 on the UK CBS record label. Louis T. Hardin (1916-1999) better known as Moondog was a revered pioneer on the Avant-Garde/Minimalist scene, his revolutionary attitude towards composition and melody was lauded by such eminent notables as Philip Glass and Steve Reich, while his style and attitude drew comparisons to Harry Partch. His influence can be seen in the music of Stereolab and Moonshake among many others. Moondog wrote all his music in braille having lost his sight in an accident involving a dynamite cap at the age of 17. This album is one of the most original, stunning and moving collection of sounds ever collated. This togetherness, of sometimes bizzare instruments and screaming babies really is the sign of a true genius. Not many musicians would have the courage or audacity to try combinations that Moondog has put onto this album. Right from the start transfixion begins, you are constantly asking yourself how does he make sounds, which alone would be a distraction, or even in some cases irritating sound so good.  This album is a masterpiece. It is fresh, superbly produced, innovative and the music itself is pure brilliance. The mixture of classical orchestral and complex jazz rhythms is still unique to this day. It is truly hard to believe the marvellous music on this album was composed during the 1950's and 1960's by a 40 year old blind busker. Witch of Endor is simply wonderful as is Bird's Lament. This is the true power of Moondogs album, "it flows like the great mans beard". The range of styles and moods, the sheer beauty of the compositions: simply breathtaking. Treasure it as a true classic!

A truly great, unique and seminal avant-garde album in superb condition. Hard to find original first UK vinyl pressing in such excellent condition...Any serious music collector must have this album! Don't miss it!!
