Original German LP released on Kopf / RRF Records in 1978. Printed innersleeve.

Moondog's 1979 release, H'art Songs, is a collection of, yes, little ditties. All the songs here have a simple, traditional song structure, minimally orchestrated with voice, piano, and the occasional gong or drum. There are very few (if any) chord changes throughout the whole disc, and the chord changes that are present here are very repetitive. The melodies, however, have a grandiose or celestial feel to them, making the music feel bigger or fuller than it is -- and it is this that really makes the music exciting, utilizing unusual chord structures. Lyrics are decidedly political, featuring songs about animal rights, pacifism, the evils of eating meat, and a biting critique of modern colonial expansion. The piano parts are primarily in the upper registers, and this gives the music a chimey sound which compliments Moondog's baritone voice very nicely. A bit too singsongy for more pedestrian tastes and so political that the art suffers somewhat. An interesting turn for Moondog from his more complex compositions.

A 1978 collection of songs by Louis Thomas Hardin. Tuneful and simple, these songs generally consist of piano and voice, but are much more than the sum of their parts. Other than the superficial similarities of a beard and a disability, there's a comparison to be made with the Moondog of this album to Robert Wyatt. They both have a beguiling quaver to their vocals, and share a lot of the sibilant characteristics in their delivery. Also, they share a similar commitment to what some would consider to be the correct things in life: decency, in a word; and a kind of fundamental goodness seems to emanate from their music.
Their are some minor embellishments - a squealing pig helps open the album on the excellent 'Pygmy Pig'. There is also some very minimal percussion - apparently Moondog would play a minimal backbeat on a drum when his more classical pieces were being recorded in the studio. Generally the songs are unadorned, and allowed to stand alone. They occupy a strange and satisfying space between somber and jolly; serious and lighthearted.

Therefore we can only offer combined shipping up to a maximum of SEVEN (7) LPs / 12" vinyls. Any extra purchases will be invoiced, packaged and shipped separately.

PAYMENT

I would appreciate payment within seven days of the auction’s end. If you want to bid on more of my auctions ending a week later please inform me. I will wait and issue a combined invoice at the close of the second week’s auctions.

However, I am no longer willing to carry combined transactions beyond two weeks and in these cases would appreciate payment promptly after the close of the second week’s auctions.

I am sorry to have to introduce these measures – I always try to be patient and allow buyers to bid on extra auctions and / or delay payment. Unfortunately some buyers have been stretching out transactions to unacceptable lengths so I feel I have no option but to limit ‘carried over’ transactions to two weeks.
