MOONDOG AND HIS FRIENDS EPIC LG 1002 ORIGINAL 10" EP  / VG++ Original released by Epic in 1953. LG 1002 Epic Radial Sound - Long Playing. Very rare record in this condition... I finally found one; !

Rare Jazz Album, "Moondog and His Friends," Epic Records, LG 1002, 1953

Moondog was born blind and raised in the American west and midwest, arriving in New York in the late 40's where he made his home until 1974. He then moved to Germany, where he died in 1999. He was self-taught in percussion and his early influence was American Indian drums.

After his arrival in New York, he took inspiration from the many Jazz musicians who also flocked to New York, in addition to the street noises and voices around him. Although he maintained a small apartment, he chose to stay out on the streets much of the time, becoming a well-known performer at the corner of 53rd St. and 6th Ave.

He made many influential friends who convinced various labels to record him. This LP is one of those recordings. Although fellow musicians respected Moondog's music, his style was way ahead of his time, and not many pressings of this record were made. 1 Dragon's Teeth • Voices Of Spring 2 Oasis 3 Tree Frog • Be A Hobo 4 Instrumental Round • Double Bass Duo • Why Spend The Dark Night With You? 5 Theme And Variations • Rim Shot   Suite No. 1 B1a First Movement B1b Second Movement B1c Third Movement   Suite No. 2 B2a First Movement B2b Second Movement B2c Third Movement
