The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath A Cloud are one of the more obscure and definitely underrated dark music groups to emerge from Europe. Their music combined modern electronics, tape loops and samplers with medieval instruments such as the shawm, hurdy gurdy, and Hexenscheit. Alzbeth was the primary vocalist for the group and often sang traditional songs in numerous archaic languages including Middle High German, Latin and Old French. Albin Julius provided distorted and backup vocals. Early on, the band provided no official photographs or any more information outside of a Swiss mailing address found inside of the albums. The band rarely appeared live or granted interviews. No songs were ever given official titles. In 1998, the duo, also a couple, parted ways and recorded no new material: Julius released material on a then-side project he called Der Blutharsch. This has subsequently become Julius' main project after the split.
In 1999, Alzbeth released a book after the duo parted ways.
This hard-back and cloth-bound book - 313 pages thick - includes lyrics, photographs and references for the historical themes used by the band. This costly made up cloth-bound volume of raw-linen in the well-known natural earthy colours of TMLHBAC is fixed for eternity by valuable thread-binding. Arranged in balanced tints - there is no black line in this book - all text is kept in a certain dark-grey, as well as all the gothic text-images. Originally hand-written by Alzbeth, these medieval-looking illustrations have been slightly worked over to fit in to the artistical concept perfectly, as well as the photographs. All ever used lyrics by TMLHBAC are additionally translated into English and presented in a beautiful gothic font, whereas the furtherleading information and comments appeare in a plain, cute font from the early 20ies. The embossed parts of the cover and spine of the book are of the same dark-grey, as well as the first and last pages and the three open edges of the book, which needed to get hand-coloured by Alzbeth piece by piece. A black ribbon eneases the continuous reading in it's function as a bookmark. The special tints lead on to the protective slipcase, which is mainly dark-grey with lighter images on spine, front and back. These images are partly embossed, too.
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
