Description
Up for sale is a rare copy of what many consider to be the best sounding mono version of the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds album. It was released twice; once in 1972 as part of a buy one get one package, and by itself in 1974. Both used the same master; this is the 1974 pressing on Brothers Records / Reprise Records / Warner Bros. Records, catalog MS 2197.
The sound is great, as expected. Plays quietly with only the most minimal background crackle; I've heard brand new mint records that have more noise than this one. Again, I should emphasize that this is a mono pressing. I'm sure 95% of you know what that means, but for the 5%...mono means there is only one center channel of sound instead of left/right stereo. It will sound different than what you're used to, but this is the way Brian cut the record and wanted it to be heard.
No scratches visible, although there are some very faint hairline marks from the paper sleeve. It came with a plain inner sleeve that I replaced with a brand new one; I'll include the original sleeve also should you prefer to use that one. The vinyl has a nice shine to it and looks NM except on close inspection. There is a small stain or spot of some sort on side one but it is outside of the music grooves in the space before the album starts and won't affect the sound in any way. The needle tracked just fine the entire time.
The album jacket is attractive but does show some light ring wear and moderate shelf wear to the sides and spine. Small 1/2" split on top seam next to sleeve opening. Top right of front cover has a spot where a price tag was previously located and removed.
