Description

 *** ATTENTION!***

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so.                POWER OF LOVE

USA - LIBERTY RECORDS - LST 7555 (MONO)

RARE ADVANCED RELEASE PROMOTIONAL ...in glorious MONO ...with different song mixes from the stereo copy - the MONO promo was never released on the commercial market - only available as a limited radio station issue!

Hard to find Original 1968 first pressing ...VERY hard to find second of two albums issued by the L.A. vased HOUR GLASS who played the 'hot spot' clubs in the Sunset Strip along with such scene-sters as the Byrds, Love, Leaves, Doors, Springfield, etc etc

The 1st HOUR GLASS album was only 1 year away from turning into THE ALLMAN BROTHERS...with Gregg on organ/vocals and Duane bending his fabulous rhythms, leads, & slide guitar...

Originally named the Allman-Act (a pun on "almanac"), they got an audition with Liberty Records with help from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and a recording contract resulted. There was also a name change to the Hour Glass.

On their second album, POWER OF LOVE the Hour Glass were given a freer hand in choosing the songs that went onto the new album, which gave it a bluesier feel than its predecessor. The band still wielded virtually no control in the studio in terms of how the songs were arranged or recorded, but elements of their soon to be "Allman Brothers Band" sound slipped through. Gregg Allman also wrote a couple of songs during this period, one of which, "It's Not My Cross to Bear," was to turn up later on the Allman Brothers Band's debut album. Unfortunately, the group's best moments were nowhere near the studio sessions where the two albums had been recorded but, rather, at the long jams they played at the Whiskey A-Go-Go in Los Angeles.

The band made an attempt to record an album of its own, putting together demos for a proposed third release at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama — they also cut a handful of tracks, most notably a B.B. King medley featuring Duane Allman out in front which, although not adequate from a commercial standpoint, did show off his playing in the studio better than any records up to that time. Liberty Records had no interest in the resulting tapes or in doing a third album, and the band broke up soon after. Gregg and Duane tried playing in a band with their friend Butch Trucks, called the 31st of February, but Gregg headed back to California while Duane remained in Florida. This is really an embryonic Allman brothers Band, with Gregg & Duane fronting ...However, that's not to say that it's either good or particularly close to the Allmans' sound.  Instead, it's LA acid rock, vaguely like the the Buffalo Springfield minus the harmonies (Neil Young's liner notes for this album were "witnessed" by Steve Stills).  Enthusiasts should enjoy the cover of " Norwegian Wood ," with Duane plunking away on electric sitar. The band seems comfortable on the slow Southern blues numbers ("To Things Before"; "I'm Hanging Up My Heart For You"). Gregg was already writing plenty of good tunes and singing up a storm, and Duane was a first-class guitarist despite not yet having mastered the slide and playing with the same dull disortion effects on track after track ("Going Nowhere").
