Description
Up for auction is a US copy of The Monkees “A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You”, backed with “She Hangs Out”, “released” in 1967 as a promo-only edition by Don Kirshner. The history of this record is a little obscure, but it seems to have been pressed by Kirshner as a response to the Monkees’ desire to split from his production team. The version of She Hangs Out included here is the ultra-rare withdrawn version issued only in Canada.
Condition: both sides have a few minor marks, the flip has one larger mark which is audible for 7 revolutions. Everything else plays through fine. Labels are problem-free. All-round VG.
My grades: I use a 10-point scale: M-; EX; VG+; VG; VG-; G+; G; G-; F (fair); P (poor). I never use mint as a grade for used records. I am a long-time (25+ years!) record collector, and play-grade where possible. The photos in the listing are of the actual item for sale. My feedback from buyers indicates I normally undergrade in listings. Even so, if you have any problems, I'll give you your money back (less shipping costs), no questions asked. Buy with confidence! Although the label [Davy Jones's private label "Davy Jones Presents"] did run a contest called "My Favorite Monkee", it was done some time after the official single was issued. Why they would press up a withdrawn Colgems master is a true mystery (if this is the case). It's quite possible Kirshner just pressed these promos thinking they would be the next Monkee record but then he was fired and the record withdrawn (in Canada) and Davy just uses them in his contest anyway. So this oddity exists: Monkee songs from the Colgems label being pressed onto a Davy Jones Presents record for a contest promoting his label. Big Question: I wonder if Colgems knew of this? Since it was only a promo, there would be no royalties to be paid. But still, this might have been some kind of under the table agreement between Kirshner and Davy.
