Georgia-born, New Jersey-raised tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley was entering one of his most fluent periods when this Blue Note session was cut. It's a moment where his balanced, lightly buffeting tone sat in striking contrast to the harder-edged players surrounding him. The band he assembled here reads like a small constellation of late-50s talent, and the music moves with that easy, full-bodied confidence. 'Fit For A Hanker' opens in a bright, quick-stepping rush, Mobley's lines gliding over Philly Joe Jones's restless swing, while 'Hi Groove, Low Feed-Back' leans into a looser, earthy pulse shaped by Wilbur Ware's bass. On the reverse, 'Easy To Love' lets Donald Byrd and John Jenkins soften the frame, turning the standard into something quietly glowing. 'Time After Time' carries that warmth forward before 'Dance Of The Infidels' reintroduces a sharper, bop-driven snap, closing the set with a clear statement of Mobley's range.
