MISSING LINKS RARE Aussie PHILIPS LP garage punk freakbeat R&B fuzz psych 1965
The Missing Links – Self-titled LP (orig. Australia Philips MONO PD 199 / flipback cover)
Release date: December 1965. Recording dates: August & September 1965.
On offer here is an ULTRA RARE original PHILIPS issue of the only album by Sydney-based group, THE MISSING LINKS. Not to be confused with the American acts of the same name, this group hailed from Sydney and issued this album in late 1965. This is my last remaining copy of two owned in the last 25 years!
THE MISSING LINKS ground-breaking album includes three 7” singles, “You’re Drivin’ Me Insane”, “Wild About You” and “H’tuom Tuhs” (which is a backwards version of BO DIDDLEY’s “Mama, Keep Your Big Mouth Shut”). Other cover versions include “Bald-Headed Woman” (THE WHO), “Some Kinda Fun” (CHRIS MONTEZ), “Nervous Breakdown” (EDDIE COCHRAN) and “On the Road Again” (BOB DYLAN). It should be noted that half the tracks are written by members of THE MISSING LINKS, which was highly unusual for an Australian act at the time. I’ve included YouTube links to a few of my favourite LP cuts below. Enjoy!

GRADING (also refer photos)
Cover:
front: VG++ laminated with a beautiful appearance: insignificant ring-wear (mainly outer rim – very hard to see), minor creasing (along spine, opening edge, bottom seam, corners / top seam looks great), minor surface creasing & rubbing, 30mm seam split (spine – centre, can be repaired).
back: VG+ flipback—highly acceptable matt finish: very light ring-wear (mainly outer rim), minor creasing (along spine, opening edge, top & bottom seams), minor surface creasing, mild discolouration.
Record:
visual: FAIR : retains satisfactory lustre despite NUMEROUS scuffs & surface scratches (nothing significant but please note the disc is heavily scuffed). IMPOSSIBLY RARE IN ANY CONDITION - GOOD LUCK TRYING TO FIND ANOTHER!
audible: GOOD : PUNCHY and VIBRANT SOUND despite some underlying surface noise/crackle & occasional light pops (music still dominates!). THE GREAT NEWS IS THAT THIS LP PLAYS THROUGH WITHOUT ANY JUMPS OR SKIPS.
labels: moderate to heavy spindle wear.
I’VE JUST LISTENED TO THIS ALBUM FROM BEGINNING TO END AND IT SOUNDS HOT! IF YOU DON’T MIND A LOWER GRADED COPY THAT YOU CAN STILL PLACE ON YOUR TURNTABLE, TURN UP LOUD, PLAY AND ENJOY, WELL THEN THIS IS THE ONE FOR YOU. HOWEVER, IF YOU ARE SEEKING A PERFECT COPY, YOU WILL (OBVIOUSLY) NEED TO LOOK ELSEWHERE. GENUINE NEAR MINT COPIES HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO FETCH OVER $2000!
I PURCHASED THIS PARTICULAR COPY FROM AN OVERSEAS DEALER WHO GRADED THE LP AS A STRONG VG(!). ALTHOUGH THE VISUAL GRADING IS ONLY FAIR, THE ACTUAL VINYL SOUNDS BETTER. PLEASE KEEP THIS IN MIND WHEN BIDDING. BEST OF LUCK!
