Description
PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us. Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING: USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire. Although guitar great Robin Trower had been with Procol Harum since their first LP, HOME was the album his guitar phenomena was unleashed on and the music world took notice...
Home was Procol Harum's fourth album, which gave the band breathing space after the majestic A Salty Dog.
Home was their first album without Mathew Fisher, whose hallmark Hammond organ sound has graced the first three Procol albums, and of course was such a feature of "A Whiter Shade of Pale."
Music critics, who often do not know what they are talking about, have advised Procol Harum started their career at the top and worked their way down! This though, is an unjustifiably underestimated falsehood view of one of Britain's best and most eclectic bands of the sixties. While A Whiter Shade of Pale is indelibly associated with 1967's Summer Of Love, during their ten-year career Procol released ten remarkable albums.
Home is a marvellous souvenir of Procol Harum's variety: their roots are displayed on the opening Whisky Train, Robin Trower's bluesy guitar blazing a tribute to Presley's Mystery Train; the epic Whaling Stories is Procol at their most ambitious, furloughing the furrow of 'progressive rock' they had made their own; Your Own Choice and Still There'll Be More are typically inscrutable.
With Gary Brooker's gutsy vocals, Trower's flamboyant guitar, B.J.Wilson's relentless drumming – he was, after all, Jimmy Page's first choice for the Led Zeppelin drumstool – and Keith Reid's enigmatic lyrics, Home shows how far Procol had come since their days in the '60s when they were known as the Paramounts, - and how much they'd developed in three years since A Whiter Shade Of Pale had seen them earmarked as one of Britain's most promising new bands.
With so much already achieved by the time of its release in 1970, Procol Harum proved with Home that there was still plenty ahead. They were never the one-hit wonders their critics claimed; if nothing else, this album at least proves that! ...
The listener may also notice, the album is more guitarist Robin Trower's "Mississippi Queen", as he is allowed to completely cut loose while the rest of the band backs him up. Procol also moves back into the reign of dark epic fantasy, with songs of death, adventure and horror. A favorite is "Still There'll Be More", a gleeful revenge song wherein the protagonist plots the many afflictions he will inflict upon his nameless enemy, vowing "I'll blacken your Christmas/And piss on your door/You'll cry out for mercy/Still there'll be more". Something about the sheer elation of the singer as he recounts all of the outrages he's planning can't help but put a smile on your face. This contrasts nicely with the song immediately following it, a slow, sad number called "Nothing That I Didn't Know". On this one, the protagonist laments the sufferings of his 26-year-old friend Jenny Drew who has just died from some sort of horrible progressive disease.
Throughout the album, imagery of death prevails. "About to Die" is Reid's vision of the last moments of Christ, as the crowds applaud him, all the while seeing him as more of a symbol than an actual person. "Dead Man's Dream" is reminiscent of an Edgar Allen Poe story, as the singer recounts a strange and frightening dream. Even "Barnyard Story" touches on the subject of death, as an old man recalls his many fantastic adventures in life and quietly looks forward to his own eternal sleep.
