Description
PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. MINT! SHRINK ! 1968 ORIGINAL FIRST PRESS FINAL COLLECTION COPY

Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones

FINAL COLLECTION COPY .... STILL IN FACTORY CELLOPHANE
November '67 released the all-time Monkees classics "Pleasant Valley Sunday" - a #3 hit single and "Words," which hit at #11 on the Billboard 200 charts ...Quickly -- PISCES, AQUARIUS, CAPRICORN AND JONES LTD. by The Monkees went to #1 on the US album charts. This was their fourth album to sell over a million copies.
The 4th Monkees album is little more than just a fantastic set of psychedelic pop/rock tunes, but so are a lot of the greatest 60s albums. While a few of the songs on Pisces, Aquarius... have more in common with early 60s R&B pop/rock songs (Salesman, She Hangs Out - as great as those songs are, too), the album shines the most when it brings in the hypnotic and resonant psychedelic influences, such as The Door Into Summer, Words, and Love Is Only Sleeping (one of the fan faves on the album and The Monkees in general).
The eclecticism doesn't stop there, however. The closing track, Star Collector, features a Moog synthesizer (one of the first uses of a synthesizer on a rock album ever). "Pleasant Valley Sunday is one of the group's strongest singles, a huge hit with it's captivating fluid jangle up-beat sound...
Elsewhere, "Don't Call on M"e is a beautiful acoustic ballad written and sung (excellently) by Michael Nesmith. The song's intro introduces Nesmith as a fictional performer, playing a song to a crowd of classy people at "the elegant Pump Room of the magnificent Palmer House, high over Chicago" and sets the mood for the song perfectly. A stunning track and creative decision, and after the song finishes we are returned to the "elegant Pump Room" as the carefree audience gives a very lukewarm reception and carries on with their business. The lack of attention paid to the singer drives home the emotion of the song, the feeling of loneliness and the confessional, brutally honest nature of the lyrics that seemed to go right over the fictional audience's heads. Absolutely gorgeous.
To recap, the "fan man" sez: Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones is one of the ten best rock or pop albums of the '60's, and ranks right alongside 'Revolver', 'Pet Sounds', 'Forever Changes', 'Beggars Banquet', 'Highway 61 Revisited', 'Are You Experienced ?' and 'Rubber Soul'. A reevaluation of the Monkees' collective talents are WAY overdue; when you realize that these guys came together as two actors and two semi- musicians who auditioned for a TV series because they were in desperate need of work AND THEN forced themselves to become a REAL band, it's pretty amazing just how often great they became. The musical growth and diversity they display on this album is truly astounding --Mike Nesmith, the band's most talented member, shines on tracks like "The Door Into Summer", "Love Is Only Sleeping", and his yearning, soaring vocal on the magnificent rural rock/pop-craft gem "What Am I Doin' Hanging Round ?" (possibly his all time greatest vocal performance). Micky shines on what still might rank as the finest three-minute exploration of suburban disenchantment ("Pleasant Valley Sunday"), as well as what may be the first usage of Moog synthesizer on a rock record ("Daily Nightly"). Even Davy - usually the 'pop' link in the band - manages to charm and delivery solid performances on"Cuddly Toy", "She Hangs Out" and the groupie tribute "Star Collector".
