PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. BRING ME MY SHOTGUN
Germany - Brigand - Brig 026
This is the same German Brigand label that issued the amazing CAN "In Concert" Lp featuring early 70's astounding sounds and amazing music....
An equally quite rare Brigand first pressing, in striking color cover, was but a very short lived European-only release that featured the blues growling PIG PEN, a lost 'n found West Coast highway biker who lived the life and burned out like a passing comet in the sky....
From his biker cool looks to his gruff, dusty voice, Ron "Pigpen" McKernan managed to work that combination into one of the '60s most encompassing (Dead-head) jam bands. His love for the blues led him to be one of the fan favorites among the flowering '67 San Francisco hippie psych scene artists...
While making the rounds on the early-'60s coffeehouse circuit in San Mateo, CA, McKernan met up with the man who would give him the everlasting nickname of Pigpen: jerrygarcia. In the next evolutional step in band formation, the two decided they could work together and picked up a few other musicians to form Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions, with Pigpen mostly covering keyboard, harmonica, and vocals.
The later grouping of Pigpen in the dead, attired in his leather jacket and bandana, the counter culture proved an interesting bridge between bikers and hippies. A photo of the band perched on the porch of a house on the famed Ashbury -- complete with a shotgun-wielding Pigpen -- only brought on more comparisons to outlaws. (The photo, coincidentally, was featured in the very first issue of Rolling Stone magazine in regard to a recent police raid and the arrest of some bandmembers on charges -- not surprisingly -- of marijuana possession.) Another intriguing relationship came about with the romantic pairing of Pigpen with Janis Joplin; the two blues singers had dueted a few times, but nothing serious ever transpired either way.
Pigpen recorded several songs for an album which never was commercially released. These include "C.C. Rider" and "Bring Me My Shotgun", and was recorded in 1970. In February, 1973, he recorded, "I Got Two Women", as well as "Santa Fe Queen", "Gas Station Rap", and "Hitch Hiking Woman", at his apartment in Corte Madera, CA. ... Another song, intended for the solo album, was the song "Hobo Jungle Rap," a simple one-chord monologue in which Pigpen describes his first encounters with local hobos. After dissolving quickly as a song, the monologue continues as a spoken word narration. In it, Pigpen talks briefly about his first experiences hopping freight trains, adding a sweet lick from his guitar here and there. The album was to be released, tentatively, on Mercury, or its Smash subsidiary, with Bob Serempa as the A&R person.
