I BELIEVE THIS TO BE ONE OF THE EARLIEST MONO PRESSING OF THE ALBUM AS IT COME WITH THE SUPER RARE 4TH PROOF SLEEVE NOW THESE ARE SOOOOO HARD TO COME BY AS THEY ONLY MADE A SMALL NUMBER BETWEEN 100-200 I HAVE BEEN TOLD.
This very very rare unique sleeve! The “Fourth Proof” sleeve represents the earliest possible pressing of the Sgt Pepper cover. The Fourth Proof was the final version of the various ‘prototypes’ that were explored by the Beatles when the cover was being designed.
The cover (and text) was approved by the Beatles and an initial very small ‘test’ run was undertaken to make sure everything looked OK.
This small test run is characterized by the inverted “Fourth Proof” text in the top right hand corner of the inner gatefold – just above George Harrison’s head.
This is therefore the earliest possible ‘prototype’ (test pressing) cover. Same fold-back have can printed text “AR D1321? which was probably the reference number for the prototype text that was used.
Now when they first made this prototype they use much thinner cardboard than normal and it is sooooo rare to fine one with a intacked spine normally they have split and hardly read the text, on mine wow just look at photos just a little browning not only the spine is 8mm wide.
