These songs are part of our living, breathing cultural identity, and--as this superb compilation, often called "the red album," brings together the majority of the Beatles' hits from the early to mid '60s. Consequently, it plays like an overview of the some of the most popular and indelible rock songs of all time reminds us--for good reason. These are the songs that turned the entire Western world on its ear. The double set vividly traces the story of the Beatles' development ...26 songs fly high in over an hour, beginning with their first British hit “Love Me Do” and proceeding to their American conquering “She Loves You” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand.” From there we go through their A Hard Day’s Night and Help movie eras, with the accompanying songs from those two flicks, and conclude the set with selections from Rubber Soul (“Nowhere Man,” “In My Life,” etc.) and Revolver (“Eleanor Rigby,” “Yellow Submarine”), which formed the beginning of their studio experimental phase. The Lennon and McCartney writing duo brought their songs to the bedroom of every teenager and later to the rooftops of London streets when they became an entity so famously idolised. The Red Album is a journey with the Beatles from the innocence of "Love Me Do" to the LSD trip of "Yellow Submarine". It's a story we all know, but it's arguably the greatest story ever told.
