MILLER
" BABY, I'VE GOT NEWS FOR YOU / THE GIRL WITH THE CASTLE "
Original 45 on the OAK RECORDS lable cat# TEM 0022 Vintage Vinyl Single!
Well! Here is a truly BRILLIANT slice of amazing Freakbeat Psychedelia!
What's even more astounding is that this is actually a TEST PRESS Demonstration copy, an historic piece that (before I came across this copy) I didn't even know might exist!
So MILLER cut these tracks at the R.G. Jones of Morden 'OAK' Studios, then this must have been sent to Columbia Records, who (quite rightly) made the decision to put it out on their lable.
What you see for auction then, is an historic item indeed - either MILLER's or the sound engineer's own copy, or maybe the copy that was sent to Columbia for their approval??
OAK records are already highly collectible, but this one is exceptional because it is the REAL deal when it comes to brilliant pieces of Psychedelic Pop-Art. I don't think it actually gets more 'pop-art' than this in fact.
The top side has Columbia's (EMI's) 'Emidisc' recording blank lable stuck over the OAK pressing lable. It is of course, a wonderful thundering, pumping punky marvel, sang almost manically with a slightly off-kilter 'foreign accent'! Hmm, who knows why - but that's what makes for a special record sometimes - that enigmatic unique edge. This HAS it!
The recipient of MILLER's high regard would have to be a bit nervous if she had this dedicated to her!! He sounds a suspect stalking sort of chap indeed, albeit... talented.
Now the flip is ALSO rather excellent - if it was the 'A' I think this would have been sought-after enough, but keeping 'BABY I GOT NEWS' company it makes for a fantastic single indeed - for me one of THE best 45's of the Sixties - and really, one of the best of ANY era.

The vinyl is in VG to VG+ condition, decent playing copy that's loud and clear. There are several surface marks (nothing deep) and general scuffs - not to dim the sheen of the vinyl badly, but visibly it has seen a bit of life and perhaps been without a cover at some point.
The 'OAK' label is the flip side, and it's VG from handling, with no written titles (so it is as would have come off the record press). The 'Emidisc' lable is respectable VG+, just a couple of tiny light marks. Did MILLER write the title info? Maybe!
Don't miss this rare copy of a VERY scarce issue!
