Miles Davis / Miles Davis and Horns – Prestige Records PRLP-7025 (Mono)(1956)(US) ...This auction is for an original first pressing Record on U.S. vinyl. It features the yellow label (deep groove) with the 446 W. 50th St., N.Y.C. address.
The music from two of Miles Davis' early Prestige sessions was released on this album in 1956. There are four titles from a 1953 date that finds the great trumpeter playing arrangements by Al Cohn in a sextet with tenors Cohn and Zoot Sims; trombonist Sonny Truitt joins the group on "Floppy." Those obscure performances (which include "Tasty Pudding" and "For Adults Only") are joined by four songs from a 1951 date featuring Miles with tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins (their first recordings together) and trombonist Benny Green.
The Record and Cover are in nice (Very Good to Very Good+) condition. Both show wear, but overall this is truly a gem (vinyl shows markings but plays well/cover has some front and back surface wear [spot on top right back] and there is some seam wear [with some splitting only on part of bottom seam]. Satisfaction Guaranteed. Auction photo may have a light gray spot(s) on left side of album pictured. It is a camera lens problem and not on actual cover. Record is in a high quality VRP record sleeve. Also included will be a high quality resealable plastic outer sleeve. Note: The record has been play graded since being listed as there was some wear to the vinyl in it's nearly 55 years of being around. Upon playing it, it does play through and is indeed a classic recording. The mid range sounds good but the high end sounds flat and plays with consistent surface noise. This would be a good record for an original collector of vintage jazz recordings. Bid accordingly.
