MILES DAVIS WITH HORNS – PRESTIGE PR 7025 – 446 W. 50TH ST., N.Y.C – VG+/EX – DG - MONO
There are two sessions by Rudy Van Gelder on this Prestige 12 inch LP. The first, recorded on January 17, 1951 features Miles Davis on trumpet, Benny green on trombone, Sonny Rollins on tenor, John Lewis on piano, Percy Heath on bass and Roy Haynes on drums. They are included on SIDE A: MORPHEUS; DOWN; BLUE ROOM and WHISPERING. They were originally issued on the 10-inch “Miles Davis Sextet” on Prestige. The second session, recorded on February 19, 1953 features Miles on trumpet, Sonny Truitt on trombone, Al Cohn and Zoot Sims on tenor, John Lewis on piano, Leonard Gaskin on bass and Jenny Clarke on drums. They are the selections on SIDE B: TASTY PUDDING; WILLIE THE WAILER; FLOPPY and FOR ADULTS ONLY. This was originally released on the 10-inch “Miles And Horns.” The address on the LP is 446 W. 50th St, N.Y.C. and the record jacket is 446 West 50th Street, New York 19, N.Y. The initials ‘RVG” are stamped in the blank vinyl on both sides of the LP. This is a deep groove recording, as well as a MONO recording.
I have graded the LP as VG+ and the record jacket as EX for the following reasons. The vinyl on Side A is clean of any marks. There are a few surface marks on Side B, which do not interfere with play, but are there and brought down the grading. There are some marks around the spindle hole, but little wear. The vinyl still has its luster. The record jacket just misses a M- grading, as there is some slight sign of wear on the bottom of the cover, where the LP was stored. There is some slight wear on the left side of the cover. Considering its age, the record jacket is in excellent condition.
