Description
Up for auction is a superb, ultra clean copy of the Miles Davis classic acid jazz album "Bitches Brew" released on Columbia Records (GP 26/CS 9995) in 1970. This is a guaranteed original stereo first pressing. Has original and correct Columbia "2-Eye" red and black labels. Also, has the important "1A" stampers in the dead wax on all four sides, indicating that this is an authentic earliest first pressing. Very rare to find a real first pressing of this landmark album. Many copies of this album are sold as "originals" that do not have the all-important "1A" stampers. This one does. Original gatefold cover, along with rare, original and correct factory Columbia paper inner sleeves. Also comes with both LPs in audiophile inner sleeves for protection of the discs.
Cover is in absolutely beautiful condition. Copies of this album were very prone to heavy wear and tear because the covers were not laminated--they have matte cardboard finishes. This copy is very well preserved considering that. Graphics on front and back are bright and vibrant, with no fading. Front has no signs of ring wear, which is so common for this record (see photo). Corners look sharp, not bumped, though a couple show some very minor rubbing. Seams are strong and intact, no splits, no cracking, which is rare for this album. Spine looks sharp, not creased from repeated opening and closing. Interior of gatefold is clean, no damage, ring wear or losses. Back cover has a very small amount of rubbing in the middle, but it's very hard to see (see photo). I would grade the cover as Near Mint (NM), which is super rare for this record.
The vinyl appears to be in beautiful condition. Very few signs of previous handling or play. Discs retain their original high gloss shine. No obvious scratches or scuffs. Perhaps some very faint signs of having been taken in and out of the paper inner sleeves. Labels are bright and clean, no marks around spindle holes, indicating little previous playing. Play tested, the records sound great, nice and clean, with very little, if any, noise to distract you from the music. One of the nicest original copies of this record you'll find. Almost impossible to upgrade. I'd grade the vinyl as Near Mint (NM).
Again, this is an authentic first pressing, with the correct "1A" stampers--making this copy one of the ultimate Miles Davis collectibles, especially in this incredible condition. Many first pressings, in not nearly as nice condition as this one, have sold for much more than I asking for this premium copy.
