Original as-new copy of the Miklos Perényi box set "Bach: 6 Suites For Solo Cello", released on Hungaroton Records (1982). To this day, these seminal recordings remain unavailable on CD.
"I found these interpretations of Bach's much-recorded Cello Suites the best I've heard. Here is someone who plays in order to show the inner qualities of the music, not to display his own panache or (for that matter) insight. Perenyi is a true and faithful servant of J.S. Bach. Reticence is his essential virtue. Because of this absence of self-indulgence, these are renditions that you can listen to over and over again. By contrast, I easily tire of Maisky, brilliant though he is. I can't exactly identify why I prefer Perenyi even to Rostropovich, but for some reason I do. (...)
