Description

This  item  came  from  our  personal  collection

Offered for sale is a still sealed copy of the limited-edition, half-speed mastered pressing of the 1968 LP Super Session, by Mike Bloomfield, Steve Stills and Al Kooper.

This 1968 LP is an odd, but important release that helped set the stage for a lot of 70s rock.  While the cover bills the artist as Mike Bloomfield, Steve Stills and Al Kooper, the three don't actually play together.  Al Kooper plays on both sides, while one side features Bloomfield and one side features Stills.  It wasn't planned that way, but Bloomfield's ongoing health issues made it necessary.  That aside, it's a terrific LP, as best explained by an excerpt from a review at AllMusic.com:

Enter the unlikely all-star triumvirate of Al Kooper (piano/organ/ondioline/vocals/guitars), Mike Bloomfield (guitar), and Stephen Stills (guitar) -- all of whom were concurrently "on hiatus" from their most recent engagements. Kooper had just split after masterminding the groundbreaking Child Is Father to the Man (1968) version of Blood, Sweat & Tears. Bloomfield was fresh from a stint with the likewise brass-driven Electric Flag, while Stills was late of Buffalo Springfield and still a few weeks away from a full-time commitment to David Crosby and Graham Nash. Although the trio never actually performed together, the long-player was notable for idiosyncratically featuring one side led by the team of Kooper/Bloomfield and the other by Kooper/Stills. ...This is one of those albums that seems to get better with age and that gets the full reissue treatment every time a new audio format comes out. This is a super session indeed.

This album was issued in the mid-1980s by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs in a limited-edition, half-speed mastered pressing.  Every title ever issued by Mobile Fidelity is collectible in its own right; their pressings from 1978 through 1989 were pressed in Japan by JVC on their proprietary Super Vinyl, an exceptionally resilient, dead-quiet vinyl compound. These records were mastered at half speed; both the tape and the cutting lathe were run at half the normal speed, allowing the cutting head to cut a more accurate groove in the acetate.  The finished product featured dead-quiet vinyl, with improved dynamics, better imaging, and tighter bass.  By their very nature, all of Mobile Fidelity's titles were limited-edition pressings, and shortly after this album was released, Mobile Fidelity began limiting all of their titles to 5000 copies.

THE RECORD

The record is still sealed and is believe to be perfectly mint.  It's pressed on high-quality JVC Super Vinyl, which the label quit using just a short time after this release.  Super Vinyl is dead-quiet and holds up exceptionally well with repeated play.  This record has a reputation as sounding terrific.

THE COVER

The cover is still sealed in the original loose wrap with the easy-tear perforations for opening.  It's in mint condition, with no issues whatsoever.  The wrap is fully intact.  We purchased this LP directly from MFSL when the record was new, and it's been sitting on our shelf ever since.

The cover has:

No split seams
No ring wear
No cut-out (drill) holes.
No cut-out corners
No saw-marks or indents
No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)
No wrinkles or creases

If you're a fan of Mike Bloomfield, Steve Stills, Al Kooper or any of their associated bands, you'll love this record.  You'll never find a better example for sale.
