MICHAEL STYERS : Bearing a Gentle Message LP (Myrddin [USA] 8007) 1980.

Record is Near Mint (our highest grade for an opened record); cover is VG+ with light ring wear and moderate edge wear. With lyric insert. Inscribed on front by Styers and two band members.

Nice signed original copy of this highly regarded cosmic folk-rock LP.

"Interesting LP that has received some attention of late. As the album title and a nice naked chick art sleeve suggest, the dominating sound is melodic, slightly rural folkrock/singer-songwriter not unlike Gary Higgins, or the less acidy tracks on Michael Angelo. Styers' voice is somewhat weak, but the arrangements and playing is fine, with rich, crystalline guitar tapestries that recall Relatively Clean Rivers on the best tracks. Female backing vocals and light string arrangements are put to good use. The country rock moves convince, while the caribbean jungle excursion seems a bit superfluous given the 45 minute playtime, although it has a certain charm. Side 1 is uneven while side 2 is very good, peaking in the superb "Summer Evening Chant" with a Donovan vibe and excellent psychedelic guitar leads. A friendly, wistful mood persists, while the obvious talent and work that went into it holds your attention. While not a classic this, along with the first Bobb Trimble, T-Kail and Blackburn & Lauren show that the psychedelic era was alive and well around 1980."
