Description
Original l964 lp on Argo (DA27) The Michael Garrick Trio with Joe Harriott and Shake Keane – Poetry And Jazz In Concert.Record Two. Very scarce album. The second part of the two record set. Features Jeremy Robson and Laurie Lee reading poetry with musical accompaniment as well as some great musical interpretations of some of the poems. Garrick’s trio here is of course himself on piano,John Taylor on bass and Colin Barnes on drums and they’re joined by Harriott on alto and Keane on trumpet/flugel. One of the finest poetry/jazz sessions out there, works so well and it’s a compelling listen with some outstanding playing from the stellar lineup of players. The front cover reads “Garrick Quintet with Harriott & Keane” but it is in fact a trio with the two guests making up a quintet. Essential piece of British jazz history.
