MICHAEL GARRICK - MR. SMITH'S APOCALYPSE
Great condition and long deleted 1971 UK 1st press jazz rarity, direct from the legendary BBC record archive
Excellent plus (EX+) condition vinyl - glossy, completely flat and weighty which in normal daylight comes across as in perfect condition, gleaming and retaining a beautiful jet black sheen. Even when viewed closely under a bright light the only identifiable mark is a 2cm extremely faint scuff line on side 2, barely discernible. Excellent (EX) condition labels with just a couple of small and very faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label. The outstanding condition of both the vinyl and each label strongly suggests that this record has been little played. Each label has the iconic "BBC GRAMOPHONE LIBRARY" stamp (see photos) which, for me, is the official mark of 1960/70's authenticity and only adds to the collectability of these prized LP's. The condition of the original iconic Mick Rock designed gatefold outer sleeve is excellent but I do urge you to look at my photos carefully since the sleeve has been re-laminated by the BBC and does contain BBC Archive stickers. All edges are firm and unscuffed, including a near perfect and rigid spine with all spine text perfectly intact. A 9.5cm x 20cm sticker is attached to the front side, along with a smaller sticker to the top left, and two further stickers on the reverse side (see photos). With care these stickers are removeable, but there is a further sticker on each of the front and reverse side between the BBC laminate and the original sleeve and these would be more difficult to remove. The interior of the gatefold is is also laminated, with no stickers, and remains in excellent condition. My view is why would anybody want to remove any of these stickers? For me they form an intrinsic component in the rich 54 year old story covering the origin and journey of this LP, which undoubtedly includes the handling of this record by BBC disc jockey luminaries such as John Peel, Alan Freeman, and Annie Nightingale to name but three. What a conversation piece! This LP was once part of what is generally agreed to have been the greatest record collection on earth - these stickers authenticate and rubber stamp that, and for that reason I for one would never want to remove any of them! Near mint (NM) stereo audio quality with no skips, jumps, repeats, sticks, clicks, distortion, interference or background crackle. Crystal clear stereo sound quality throughout with each and every track a great listen. Jazz greats such as Don Rendell, Art Theman, Trevor Tomkins, Coleridge Goode, Henry Lowther and Norma Winstone are in wonderful form on this legendary quasi-religious Miachael Garrick opus centered upon the concept of God's absence or non-existence. Comes with original and correctly dated blue and white DECCA/Argo "MADE IN ENGLAND" and "British patent..." poly-lined inner sleeve with no side splits or tears, barely any age discolouration and a single diagonal crease in one corner. Note that I always ship the record in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original. Rare, sought after, and so difficult to come cross 1st pressings in condition as truly impressive as this.

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.
