Description
In 1977, Mobile Fidelity began offering a line of Original Master Recording LPs - re-issued albums of popular rock and pop acts. These albums were all cut at 1/2 speed from the original tapes, using no compression or velocity limiting (equalization was used, however). The records were then pressed on JVC Supervinyl. Sleeves featured glossy, detailed artwork reproductions on heavy cardboard and plastic liner sleeves.
Mobile Fidelity was the first label to use the half-speed mastering technique. All LP releases are pressed from lacquers cut at 1/2 normal playing speed. This is accomplished by playing master tape at half its normal speed, while simultaneously running the cutting lathe at half speed. For instance, a 30 inch per second (I.P.S.) speed tape would be played at 15 I.P.S., while the lathe is running at 16?? RPM (when cutting a standard 33?? RPM LP). The half-speed mastering technique allows for extended frequency response and better transient attack.
10,000 copies were produced.
I purchased this edition in 1984 from Tower Records. None of the records have ever been played. The album cover art booklet has been thumbed through several times over the years and the GEO Disc was used extensively by me to set up other peoples turntables.
The condition of the box is near mint as are the album sleaves and vinyl.
I sent the card in, at the time, to receive the Beggars Banquet original album cover poster with matching serial number of the box set but have been unable to locate it since moving.
I can't guarantee I'll be able to find it. I will keep a file of the winning bidders name and address and will send it along if and when I find it.
