Description
VERY RARE promo Metallica "Fade to Black" Flourescent Day-Glo Green 12" single. Has original "The Friday Morning Quarterback Album Report" promo sticker. The record has never been played and has been out of the sleeve twice since it was issued. Once to photograph the matrix # for the above pictures, and once to transfer it to a plastic-lined inner sleeve for storage. (The PVC Plastic sleeves from the mid '80s that these records came in are notorious for "outgassing" and leaving residue on the records.) The surface of this disc is spotlessly clean. The plastic sleeve is in as excellent a condition as it could be given the material. There is no cracking or separation to the spines. In raking light you can see faint pitting inside the sleeve due to the PVC outgassing. (I have a Motley Crue 12" picture disc soon to be up on ebay that has the same type of PVC plastic sleeve with the same issue. Side note: They used to make photographic transparency storage sheets out of the same plastic. With time the plastic stuck to the photo emulsion ruining the slides. I lost many pictures that way.) The "Friday Morning Quarterback" sticker is still attached securely but is discolored where there was no record underneath. See photo. The disk will ship in a lined inner sleeve, and the plastic sleeve will have its own sleeve. (I highly recommend not storing the disk in the PVC!)
I got the Metallica record and the Motley Crue (and many other promo items) from the Elektra Los Angeles office, in 1985-86 when I was working as a freelance photographer and designer for them.
The matrix # is ST-ED-5042 A-1 Also has the masterdisk stamp.
