ITEM HISTORY
All of my sale items are from my own collection, stored in a smoke free, pet free home.
Debut single from promising band who failed to deliver after first LP.
The story goes like this. I purchased two copies of the 7" and CD when it was released. Yes, I totally bought the hype. Mail-ordered it via the ever-helpful Delia at Rough Trade shop London. (Remember Melbourne only had Relic Records in Prahran back then who'd consistently stock UK releases)
Months later, returning home to my shared unit in Elwood from overseas, as I entered my room I discovered this record was already sitting on top of my speaker.
Seeing the state of the cover, of course my first reaction was, "WHO THE F***...???"
It wasn't long before my housemate walked in and showed me some polaroids of him and some of our friends and, well, Johnny Dean and his then-girlfriend. Partying at a club somewhere. In Melbourne. Turns out that the aforementioned singer of the band was holidaying in town, and for some twist of fate had bumped into my housemate and friends, in which Mr Dean himself (plus ladyfriend) ended up staying in my room. Sleeping, and most probably doing what fish are doing in water, under my (gulp) Bananas and Pyjamas doona. Oh come on, it was for irony's sake!
Anyway, that's how that scribble got in there. True story. No, really.
Hence my starting price.
Apologies if it seems preposterous, but in the words of Lock Stock's Vinnie Jones, "It's been emotional."
Please don't hesitate to ask me any questions regarding the auction.
