MELVIN SPARKS – “Akilah!” (1972) Prestige-10039 scarce original pressing VG++/M- (cover/record)

One of the great funky-jazz guitarist's excellent solo releases. Melvin's joined by Leon Spencer on keys, Idris Muhammad on drums, Buddy Caldwell, Virgil Jones, Sonny Fortune, Frank Wess, Ernie Royal, George Coleman, Dave Hubbard, and Hubert Laws. Tracks include a massive version of Kool & the Gang's "Love the Life You Live," and "On the Up," "All Wrapped Up," "Akilah, "Blues for J.B.," and "The Image of Love." Modeling himself after Grant Green, Melvin tears it up here but at the same time gets a bit introspective at times. Cool, cool LP.

This is an original pressing. The cover is beautiful with basically no wear and only a cut out notch in the top seam about 2-inches in from the jacket opening. The original green label pressing vinyl is glossy and beautiful. Conservative grading: EX/M- (cover/record).

I package all LPs securely in record mailers and remove the vinyl from the covers to prevent seam splits during mailing. I do not just stick your record in a priority mailer box from the post office or between two thin pieces of cardboard with no additional packaging materials like so many others!!!
