Description

MEL & TIM
Good Guys Only Win In The Movies (1970)

Mississippi cousins MEL Hardin and TIM McPherson  had two tremendous hits in the late '60s and early '70s, one a classic novelty tune, the other a great slow wailer. They were signed to Gene Chandler 's Bamboo label and their song "Backfield in Motion" remains a soul staple. It was both a Top Ten pop hit and number three R&B single.

The follow-up was a decent effort, "Good Guys Only Win in the Movies," which made the R&B charts at #17. But they were back in the hunt in a big way in 1972, as "Starting All Over Again" peaked at number four R&B and number 19 pop. It was the duo's only Stax hit, although they continued recording for the company through the mid-'70s and were even in the film Wattstax, doing "I May Not Be What You Want." [Ron Wynn ]

Here is their debut Lp and the first (and only?) album for Bamboo Records. It’s a DEEP GROOVE original pressing and sounds as if it were pressed yesterday – it’s that minty fresh.
