Date of Death:December 20, 1965
Charlie Burse was born August 25, 1901 in Decatur, Alabama where he learned to play banjo and guitar. In 1928 he relocated to Memphis, where he met Will Shade and joined the Memphis Jug Band.
The Memphis Jug Band was one the popular jug bands of the 1920s and 1930s. The leader of the band was Will Shade who played guitar, harmonica and Bullfiddle. Shade continued to put together jug bands in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.
