Description
This is a rare first issue Meet The Beatles stereo album released on Jan. 20, 1964, Capitol ST 2047. Recorded in England. It has the black/rainbow record labels with no BMI or ASCAP credits to the songs on either side ("1st variation"). Those labels are in excellent condition with no markings, names or tags, very slight spindle wear.
The vinyl I would grade visually a strong VG but for a few bad scratches that affect only track one on side 2 (see photo), hence the downgrade. Test-playing reveals audio variation. The only serious distractions are on the aforementioned track 2. The rest of the audio is clear, some slight crackling on 2 tracks. There are several perfect-playing tracks. My general impression is that this hurried release was not top quality stereo - there seems to be an imbalance of instrumental vs vocal on a couple tracks, but maybe that's my inexpensive record player.
The outer album cover is VG+ to NM with bright photos and print, no writing, tags, or split seams, not even any corner dings. Some creasing on the left edge and minor shelf wear on back. It is the version with brownish BEATLES print and no "Produced by George Martin" printing.
The inner sleeve is the original "early style royal blue" Capitol advertising form. I would grade that also as strong VG having a ca. 1 1/2" split on the left mid-seam and some mild discoloration. No other tears, splits, tags, or writing to distract.
