MAYNARD FERGUSON: L-DOPA Original UK CBS 1970 DEMO 45. FUNK/BAND/JAZZ Mint
For auction, a rare opportunity to own a blistering slice of big band funky jazz from over half a century ago but that roars hard and horny across the years.
Collectors will not need a history lesson on Maynard Ferguson nor on this, one of his most sought after singles: a sizzling interpretation of Keith Mansfield's 'Powerhouse Pop'. And what a copy this is.
It is in astonishing condition for a disc pressed up for industry-only distribution in 1970.
The vinyl shines bright, deep and lush, free from all scuffs, scratches and warping much as it left the factory fifty two years back (this August!). Turning the seven-inch under harsh light I can make out a short hairline at the start of side two's mystical but then wild, ""Chala Nata" but this cannot be heard on playback.
The demo labels are shop perfect, clear, no discolouring, no writing, fading or stickers. Amazing given the majority of the exclusive CBS DEMO branding is bright white. Side One shows the release date as "14th August 1970".
Even the records original and fragile CBS birth bag remains crisp and totally intact. Some slight yellowing at the very edges but that is all. No biro, no rips, no bother.
Should another copy of this become available I cannot imagine how it could be any better than this one.
