Description
"VOICES OF HAITI" recorded by Maya Deren (Elektra EKLP-5 original 1953 pressing)
Rare & incredible record. Cover illustration by Teijo Ito. Recorded during ceremonials near Croix-Des-Missions and Petionville in Haiti by Maya Deren. Deren was an avant-garde film maker who had received the first Guggenheim grant for experimental film. With this money she bought the wire recorder used for these recordings. The recordings are now held in the Boston University Library's special collections of Maya Deren. Her definitive book on Voudoun, 'Divine Horseman: The Living Gods of Haiti' was also published in 1953.
Cover is VG, vinyl in VG+ condition -- see photos. Does not include booklet. Sounds great. A few audible crackles and pops in the first track on each side, but nothing a good cleaning probably couldn't take care of. Other than that, plays beautifully.
