Description
GODDARD LIEBERSON hosts the Columbia Records Miami Convention, 1957. (Columbia XLP-41990-1A/XLP-41992-1A/XLP-41993-1A). Private-issue white-label 3-LP set of the proceedings – each LP is single-sided. Lieberson and musical director Ray Conniff humorously introduce perfomances by label artists Jerri Adams, Don Cherry, Trio Los Panchos, Kenny Bowers, Mel Tillis, Carl Smith, Ray Price, Marty Robbins, Johnny Mathis, Ray Conniff, Erroll Garner, Rhonda Fleming, Leonard Bernstein and Frankie Laine. Each artist usually does two songs – Rhonda sings one, (“Around the World”), Garner plays three (“I’ll Remember April,” “It’s All Right with Me” and “Teach Me Tonight.”) and Frankie Laine, concluding the show, sings four. Bernstein appears briefly and plays an intentionally rotten piano solo, in the style of Columbia’s comedy album by Jonathan Edwards. Lenny is heralded as having just signed with Columbia. All the performances are live, not dubbed from previous recordings. The Garner tracks are not listed in any discography! All three records in nearly E+ condition; some spots on record surface that could use a cleaning. In original generic sleeves. Check my other auctions for more nice condition personality & dance band 78s! Overseas shipping charges are higher, of course. Good luck!
