Every now and again there is a white female blues-rock-R&B singer like Maggie Bell, Linda Hoyle, Janis Joplin, Elkie Brooks and Martha Velez. Extraordinary singers with powerful, blues-soaked voices that pierce the heart. And every so often, one of these singers cuts an album actually worthy of her talents featuring the 'right' material, and this is such an album. The great producer Mike Vernon (he of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac productions), assembled a crack team of mainly British blues players at Decca Studios in West Hampstead (where Peter Green and John Mayall recorded) and let Velez loose over the top - the results are stunning - she performs nearly every song as if it might well be the last chance to sing she will ever get. Eric Clapton is here, before he lost the plot, using his unmistakable Mayall/Decca Studios/Mike Vernon captured 'ultimate' tone - which we always thought on this recording was his Les Paul through a Marshall combo - but apparently, it is his reverse Firebird through Duster Bennett's Selmer Zodiac amp! Thanks to Chris Astadoes for this clarification.
This has to be one of the best albums ever released on Blue Horizon, yet it remains barely known and sold miserably. We are proud to offer not only a superb playing copy, but one with a sleeve that still has most of the shrink wrap on it and the telling evidence of an original Woolworths price sticker offering the album at the 'drastically reduced' price of 72 pence!!! Even Woolworths couldn't sell this classic album at the time...But time has been kind to it, the quality of the music is recognised by those with ears for great blues-R&B of the late 1960s-early 1970s. Don't let this copy slip you by, we doubt we will ever have another one in such clean condition, and that's assuming we ever see another one to begin with...

SLEEVE: EXCELLENT MINUS. MOST OF THE COVER IS STILL UNDER STORE SHRINKWRAP, JUST THE RIGHT SIDE EDGE HAS LIGHT SHELF AND EDGE WEAR, SOME CORNER SCUFFING, MINOR CORNER BUMPS. INNER SLEEVE IS VERY GOOD+.
DISC: EXCELLENT MINUS. NO MARKS OR SCRATCHES AND NO NOTICEABLE SPINDLE WEAR, JUST A FEW LIGHT HAIRLINES. SUPER-CLEAN LABELS, CLEARLY A DISC THAT HAS RARELY BEEN PLAYED. A SPLENDID PLAYING COPY WITH SUPERB AUDIO. NO SKIPS OR JUMPS, NO NOTICEABLE GROOVE WEAR, AND NO DETRIMENTAL SURFACE NOISES.
