MARQUIS OF KENSINGTON
"THE CHANGING OF THE GUARD" b/w "REVERSE THRUST"
on IMMEDIATE RECORDS issue # IM 052 from vintage 1967 - plus it’s the scarcer & very collectible ‘A’ LABLE DEMONSTRATION SAMPLE issue!
A serious ‘man about town’ in hip swingin’ mini-skirted mod-bod Carnaby Streetin’ London Town, MIKE LEANDER lent his respected attention to many-a project.
It was only right that his good mate Andrew Loog-Oldham should give him a nod of recognition here on his own record lable! So - with something of a novelty piece, Mike was nicknamed ‘The Marquis of Kensington’ (probably earned by his lording about in fine threads and networking with the young hipster gentry of the time). These strutting lads were not poseurs though, for all their dandy style - these were movers and shakers in an urgent and fast-moving scene in 1967.
The ‘A’ is in classic vaudeville style, a story about the ‘toffs’ getting displaced - something the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band might have such with similar panache.
The flip is another story - a tasty instrumental tune that is played...backwards! So, instead of dissolvendo of cymbals, they come atcha, and the bass notes end with a thud. Psychedelic....if only by flippant accident of conception!
A cool collectible, and on an eminently revered lable too.
ATTENTION; THIS COMES IN A DUTCH or GERMAN PICTURE SLEEVE
(perhaps for Belgian market, as often they combined UK records in European sleeves)
CONDITION of the vinyl here is VG+ overall, plays well without skips, & loud and clear.
Lables are clean, no pen or tears, VG++.
PICTURE COVER is clean and in EX shape
