Title: "The Wizard" 7" (Ultra Rare Original 1965 1st Pressing UK Decca Records 7"Single ~ Cat.No.F.12288)

Format: Extremely Rare Original 1965 UK Decca Records MARC BOLAN 7"single "The Wizard" c/w "Beyond The Risin' Sun" . This was Marc Bolan's first ever 45rpm single,released on the UK Decca label in 1965,serial no F.12288,still housed in its original company sleeve . Pre-dates all John's Children,Tyrannosaurus Rex and T.Rex recordings.The record has been well played and has numerous light,non sounding surface marks,but is in Very Good overall condition with no major scratches or defects . This classic 45 plays superbly throughout with no jumps or sticks. 

Note that this original first edition pressing 'stock' release has the two spots (umlauts) above the O in "Bolan" (A side only) indicating that this is one of the earliest runs during the manufacturing of the records in November 1965...The spots were later removed after the "error" was noticed....Demo copies are more common than 'stock' issues.

Decca Company Sleeve: Excellent

Labels: Near Excellent ; 'A' side (clean and unmarked) 'B' side (has some tiny 'pitted' marks probably from an old price sticker - see photo no.3) Centre (100% solid with some spindle wear)

Vinyl: Very Good (Both sides have numerous light surface marks,typical of a well played 60's single,but nothing serious,and no major scratches to affect the sound or playing!  ~ The single plays extremely well with no jumps,stickers or pops)

*I have tried to be careful with my condition report as the record is not in mint condition (do any exist?) but it is still a fantastic addition to anybodys collection, in particluar of course any Marc Bolan fan.*

Comments: This is an extremely rare 7"single record - Marc Bolan's very first official 45 rpm single "The Wizard" c/w "Beyond The Risin' Sun" released on UK Decca records 1965 - Cat.Number F.12288.This 42 years old record is a very good example of a VERY scarce single . The record plays superbly.

Decca's press release on the "Wizard" single was a masterpiece of sixties hype. It read:

"Marc Bolan was born in September 1947. After 15 years had passed he traveled to Paris and met a black magician called The Wizard, He lived for 18 months in The Wizard's chateau with Achimedies, an owl, and the biggest, whitest Siamese cat you ever saw. He then felt the need to spend some time alone so he made his way to woods, near Rome. For two weeks he strove to find himself and then he returned to London where he began to write. His writings mirror his experiences with mentionings of the magician's pact with the great god Pan. In London, walking down Kings Road, Chelsea in the dead of night, he chanced to meet a girl named Lo-og who gave him a magic cat. This cat, named after the girl, is now his constant companion and is a source of inspiration to him. Now The Wizard's tale is set down for all to hear on Marc's first recording for Decca."

A legendary 1960's single,so very hard to find,and would surely be a 'top want' for any Marc Bolan collector, or lover of quality British Beat / Psych. This is a rare opportunity to own a record which the British Record Collector price guide currently values at around the £500 mark.
