Description
This is a pretty much completely unknown 7" EP from a band called Mannequin. They came from the same San Antonio scene that also gave us bands like Lung Overcoat. Mannequin released a couple of EPs on their Closet Records label. In true DIY fashion, this is a cheapo oversized sleeve with the EP name hand-stamped on the front, and with a large foldout photocopied lyrics sheet and small label catalog. I've heard that as few as only 100 copies of this were pressed!!!! This EP is called Return to Cinder, and it contains five totally wonderful, perfect, lo-fi tracks. New wave synths, powerpop riffs, handclaps, call and response choruses, bouncy guitars, great vocals, and quite a bit of experimentation all mix together perfectly on this one. Sounding like a mix of bands like Wire, Mission of Burma, Talking Heads, and others, this record has something for everyone. The synths of Trust in Authority, the no-wavey experimentation of (Just Trying to Be) in the 20th Century, the clapping, bouncy, catchy-as hell call-and-response powerpop of Trouble in the City - all of these are killer songs, and reasons to own this!
The oversized cover is VG+; there is some creasing and discoloration from age; the vinyl is VG+ with only some faint surface marks; it plays great!
